While in Grand Rapids celebrating the opening of a coffee shop yesterday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer decided it was an appropriate time to tout her support for outright bans on certain types of firearms.
According to WZZM 13, she made the absurd claim that “most gun owners she knows support stringent gun laws” and that somehow gun bans don’t limit “second amendment hunter’s rights or the right to protect yourself.”
In addition to her not understanding the original intent of the Second Amendment, I’m curious to know which gun owners is she talking to who support “stringent” gun control.
Whitmer also declared, “I reject the false narrative that’s been put out there that you can either support the second amendment or you can be for gun control,” claiming that she can do both.
What a load nonsense.
Gov. Whitmer hasn’t found a gun control measure that she doesn’t support and yet she has the audacity to act as if she supports the Second Amendment.
Whether it was during her time in the State Legislature, during her campaign for Governor, or now in the wake of the attacks in El Paso and Dayton, Gov. Whitmer has made it abundantly clear that she is no friend of Michigan gun owners.
She is completely incapable of hiding her disdain for the right to keep and bear arms.
While she is busy spouting off her support for outright gun bans and due process-shredding “Red Flag” laws, she’s completely oblivious to how out-of-touch she is with Michiganders.
And while Michigan is historically a swing-state politically, it is a pro-gun state with a rich history of firearm ownership.
Outright assaults on the Second Amendment are a quick way to sour any good will with Michiganders that may have existed.
Just as President Trump is putting his re-election at risk by supporting “Red Flag” gun confiscation orders, Gov. Whitmer is running the risk of awaking a sleeping giant here in Michigan ahead of her being on the ballot again in 2022.
Of course, that is many years off and right now pro-gun Michiganders need to make sure that none of her radical agenda becomes law.
And that is only going to happen by turning up the heat on our lawmakers in Lansing.
If you haven’t yet, contact your State Representative and State Senator, and urge them to oppose Whitmer’s radical anti-gun agenda.
