Gun confiscation hearings in Lansing?

Sep 11, 2019

Dear Fellow Patriot,

What is he thinking?

While hundreds of pro-gun Michiganders were rallying outside the Capitol yesterday, backroom deals were being cut by GOP Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey to hold a hearing on dangerous “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation orders sometime this fall.

That’s right.

On the same day as the 2019 Second Amendment March, it came out in the Detroit News that arguably the most powerful Republican in the State Legislature promised Democrat State Senator Rosemary Bayer a hearing on her “Red Flag” bill package.

This is the same legislation (Senate Bill 156) sponsored by Democrat State Senator Mallory McMorrow that I’ve been warning you about for months.

Apparently Senator Shirkey didn’t get the message from the stack of petitions I delivered to his office yesterday from his constituents encouraging him to oppose all gun control, especially due process-shredding “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation orders.

He is seemingly ignoring the more than 37,000 petitions that Great Lakes Gun Rights staff and volunteers delivered to state lawmakers just yesterday.

I wish I wasn’t having to be the bearer of bad news.

I would have rather spent my time this morning writing to you about the wonderful time I had yesterday at the Second Amendment March.

I would have preferred to write more about how a dozen volunteers from across the state helped deliver more than 37,000 petitions to state lawmakers in record time. (Special thanks to our friends at Delta County Gun Owners Association!)

I’d rather talk to you about the reactions of legislative staff when we brought stacks of petitions into their offices from our members and supporters.

And I would have preferred to focus on the more than a dozen new Great Lakes Gun Rights members who joined our fight yesterday, as well as the nearly 150 new petitions opposing dangerous “Red Flag” laws that were gathered.

But instead, I’m having to write to you about Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey capitulating to anti-gun Democrats and giving into their demands to hold a gun control hearing.

Shirkey trying to be magnanimous with our gun rights is unacceptable and in the days ahead he is going to hear it from pro-gun Michiganders.

I’m glad I was in Lansing yesterday for the Second Amendment March and that we were able to gather new petitions opposing “Red Flag” laws as we are clearly going to need them.

And while the March was a good time and a great opportunity to lobby lawmakers, now more than ever gun owners need to stay in this fight, as it is far from over.

So get ready to make your phone calls and send your emails to Senate Majority Leader Shirkey and your lawmakers encouraging them to oppose dangerous “Red Flag” laws.

Also, if you haven’t yet, sign your Stop “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation petition.

I’m preparing to deliver another batch of these petitions this fall if Shirkey persists in his misguided plan to hold a hearing on Senate Bill 156.

After you’ve signed your petition, please chip in $30 or even $10 to help fund our efforts to fight “Red Flag” laws here in Michigan.

Then forward this email to your pro-gun friends and family to get them into the fight.

Thanks in advance for your continued activism!
