Gun control heading to Whitmer’s desk

GLGR Website Header Legislative Alerts 300x300

Yesterday, the Michigan Senate voted along party lines to send mandatory storage legislation (SB 79 and 80) and the expansion of Michigan’s draconian pistol purchase permit scheme to ALL firearms (HB 4138, 4142 and 4143) to Governor Whitmer’s desk where she is expected to sign it into law.

I’m not going to ask you to call the Governor and ask her to veto it, as it would be a waste of your time.

We know where Whitmer stands on these gun control measures, she openly called the Democrat-controlled Legislature to send these bills to her desk during her State of the State address, and they quickly used the MSU “gun free” zone shooting to rush these bills through the legislative process.

While I am frustrated and angry, as I’m sure you are, about what happened in Lansing this week, I know that without all of the work you and I have put in, they would have passed all of these gun control bills AND more if we didn’t take immediate action.

So thank you for all you have done to hold your elected officials’ feet to the fire over the last month.

The Michigan Legislature is now heading into a two week spring break with having passed two of their major gun control measures, but failing to send “Red Flag” gun confiscation to the Governor’s desk.

We know that they desperately want to get that done too, so we can’t rest yet, but must continue to work on making these votes for gun control as politically painful as possible for Democrats and Republicans alike.

Here’s where things stand and what you can do to help over the next couple weeks:

● We at Great Lakes Gun Rights are looking to dial up pressure in key districts across the state to derail the Democrats’ attempts to pass “Red Flag” gun confiscation and other gun control measures.

It’s a small victory for them to not to have passed “Red Flag” so we must take full advantage of the time we have to keep the pressure on them. We know several Democrats are getting worn out from this gun control fight, so the more we can pressure them, the more likely we are to succeed.

Forwarding this email to all your pro-gun contacts and asking them to join this fight would help immensely as we need as many patriots in this fight as possible.

● We’re taking a closer look at key districts across the state as we dig further into our plans to hold Democrats and Republicans accountable for their gun control votes as early as this year via the recall system.

Grassroots activists across the state are fired up and want to make politicians pay for their betrayal of our rights.

● I know a lot of you are interested in filing lawsuits against these measures. We’re discussing with Second Amendment attorneys and other gun rights organizations on how best to approach these challenges.

It’s on the table, but for now we are going to keep focusing on stopping the Legislature from passing more gun control in the weeks ahead.

Another way you can help out is by making a generous contribution to Great Lakes Gun Rights.

Over the last five weeks I’ve thrown everything we have at them, including five rounds of post cardspumping hundreds of phone calls into legislative officesrunning hard-hitting social media adsradio adstext messagese-mails and delivered over 80,000 petitions either in person or by fax.

I willingly spent all of this up front knowing that it was necessary to fight to protect our right to keep and bear arms, as well as knowing that you all would answer the call, and indeed you have.

But we still have more fighting to do and I am relying on the generous support of our members to help us keep up the pressure in Lansing and to hold these anti-gun politicians accountable.

Whether you are able to make a contribution of $500, $250, $100 or even $30, it would go a long way towards making sure Great Lakes Gun Rights has the resources needed to keep us in this fight.

You could also become a $10 monthly donor which would help us to have sustaining support throughout the year.

Thank you for all you have done these last few weeks through calling your legislatorssending e-mailsmaking donations and recruiting friends to the fight.

Take a breather this weekend and I’ll be sure to keep you posted about what are next steps are next week.
