Law-abiding gun owners should not have to beg the government for permission to exercise their right to keep and bear arms.

Currently in Michigan, you can open carry without a permit.

However, if you were to put on a coat which covers your pistol, you could become a felon.

The fees required to obtain a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) here in Michigan are nothing more than a “coat tax.”

Don’t pay the tax and go through the bureaucratic rigmarole to get your CPL — you become a criminal for carrying a pistol and wearing a coat at the same time.

The good news is State Representative Steve Johnson (R-HD 72) just filed Constitutional Carry legislation which would repeal the “coat tax” and restore law-abiding citizens in Michigan the right to carry a pistol, however they see fit.

So please sign the petition encouraging your lawmakers to support Constitutional Carry TODAY!

This is an updated version of the legislation that I worked with former State Rep. Gary Glenn to introduce back in 2017. Now Rep. Johnson is picking up where he left off!

Also joining Rep. Johnson as sponsors of this bill package are State Reps. Matt Maddock (R-HD 44), Michele Hoitenga (R-HD 102), John Reilly (R-HD 46) and Pamela Hornberger (R-HD 32).

Under this legislation, law-abiding citizens could legally carry anywhere that CPL holders can currently carry (barring anywhere currently prohibited by federal law).

It would also restore the right to carry a loaded pistol in your vehicle without having to obtain a CPL, a practice that is already legal (in some form) in over half the country.

The CPL will remain intact so that Michiganders can obtain it for the purposes of interstate reciprocity, it would simply become optional.

Already 15 states have Constitutional Carry on the books with South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Kentucky passing it into law just this year!

After signing your petition, please considering chipping in $30 or $10 to help fund this fight to restore our rights here in Michigan.

While we have a steep climb to make this important legislation a reality with anti-gun Democrat Gretchen Whitmer as Governor, the truth is support for Constitutional Carry continues to grow here in Michigan.

In fact, 38 current State Representatives returned their GLGR candidate surveys indicating their support for Constitutional Carry, with several others already on the record voting for a version of the bill back in 2017 (HB 4416).

Not only that, nearly a third of the State Senate returned their candidate surveys in support of Constitutional Carry!

Getting solid Constitutional Carry legislation introduced this session — and advancing it through the Legislature — is the best way to keep pro-gun Michiganders fired up and ready to fight for our gun rights in Lansing.

As you know, anti-gun Democrats have already filed a flurry of gun control measures, designed to gin up their radical base.

If you and I aren’t actively pushing to restore our gun rights, in spite of who controls the Governor’s mansion, our elected officials will only be hearing from those opposed to our right to keep and bear arms.

Keeping gun owners plugged in by fighting for a solid pro-gun bill like Constitutional Carry is an excellent way to keep the pressure on our elected officials — and to expose any and all anti-gun politicians.

This is a long-term battle that won’t be won overnight, but can happen if we persistently pursue this important legislation and hold those accountable who continue to stand in our way.

So please sign your Constitutional Carry petition TODAY!

After signing, please consider chipping in $30 or $10 to help GLGR make Constitutional Carry a reality in Michigan.

Thank you for your support.
