Senate Bill 111: A Direct Threat to Gun Rights and Due Process

Michigan Gun Owners Beware: Senate Bill 111 is a Stealth Gun Grab

Anti-gun Democrats are at it again. Senate Bill 111 (SB 111), sponsored by Sen. Veronica Klinefelt (SD 11), disguised as a measure to protect the elderly and vulnerable, is yet another unconstitutional attack on gun rights, trampling due process and setting a dangerous precedent for lawful gun owners.

At first glance, the bill appears to address legitimate concerns—protecting older adults and those with disabilities from abuse and financial exploitation. But buried in its provisions is the same anti-gun poison we’ve come to expect from leftist politicians: a backdoor strategy to strip Michiganders of their Second Amendment rights without due process.

Even worse, simply purchasing a firearm could trigger a personal protection order (PPO) against you, allowing the government to infringe on your rights for merely exercising them.

How SB 111 Weaponizes PPOs Against Gun Owners

SB 111 allows courts to issue PPOs that prohibit the accused from purchasing or possessing firearms based on mere allegations. If someone claims you are a “threat,” you could be disarmed overnight, regardless of whether you’ve committed a crime.

Under this bill, even attempting to purchase a firearm could be used as justification to issue a PPO against you. If a petitioner argues that your gun purchase makes them feel “unsafe,” you could be:

  • Blocked from completing the firearm purchase.
  • Forced to surrender legally owned firearms.
  • Stripped of your right to self-defense without a trial.

This isn’t about safety. It’s about disarming citizens before they even have the chance to protect themselves.

Michigan Already Has a Red Flag Law—SB 111 Expands It Even Further

Michigan already has a red flag law, which allows judges to issue Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) to seize firearms from individuals based on accusations alone. SB 111 takes this unconstitutional policy even further.

Under SB 111, merely purchasing a firearm could be considered “evidence” that you’re a threat, leading to a PPO that disarms you without a crime ever being commited.

The anti-gun left is no longer satisfied with confiscating firearms—they want to criminalize the mere act of legally obtaining one. This bill is a clear and direct attack on lawful gun ownership in Michigan.

SB 111 Disarms the Most Vulnerable

Ironically, SB 111 claims to protect vulnerable adults, yet it actively disarms them instead.

Imagine a 70-year-old woman who purchases a firearm for protection. If someone—a disgruntled relative, a hostile caretaker—claims she is “unstable” or “threatening”, she could be stripped of her right to own a gun overnight.

What happens then? She’s left defenseless against criminals who don’t obey laws. SB 111 doesn’t prevent actual threats—it only ensures that law-abiding citizens can’t fight back.

Gun Owners Must Fight Back

Make no mistake—SB 111 is not about protecting the vulnerable. It’s about expanding the government’s power to disarm citizens without due process.

Michigan gun owners must stand up and fight back. Contact your elected officials, make your voice heard, and remind Lansing politicians that our rights are not negotiable.
