The amount of Michigan Democrats I saw calling for gun control BEFORE all of the facts have come out from last night’s shooting at MSU is shameful.
It appears all too many of them have been waiting for a tragedy to pounce on to push for gun control, and it shows.
Several Democrat lawmakers were calling for gun restrictions before the Michigan State University Campus Police even had an opportunity to brief the public about the events last night.
Of course, they are calling for every form of gun control imaginable, regardless if it is even relevant to last night’s shooting.
Calling for gun control, any gun control, before law enforcement has even started its investigation is the epitome of politicizing a tragedy.
Yet that’s exactly what Governor Whitmer and legislative Democrats are doing.
Sadly, this is all too predictable for anti-gun politicians. It is entirely inappropriate and shows their clear intention to not actually pass sound policy, but to just get a gun control win at any cost.
I know, like me, you are saddened by the violence experienced in East Lansing last night.
I’d like to be able to take a step back and wait for more of the facts to come out before doing anything, but when you have Democrat lawmakers like State Rep. Ranjeev Puri (House District 24) publicly telling people “F*** your thoughts and prayers” you know where this is headed.
Michigan House Democrat Majority Floor Leader Abraham Aiyash (House District 9) is publicly saying that Michigan House Democrats will be working to pass gun control “in the coming days.”
They’re not waiting for the facts to come out, they’re loaded for bear and ready to ram through as much gun control as they think they can get away with.
Not surprisingly, Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action immediately joined the calls for gun control.
This fight is going to require all hands on deck.
Democrats are likely to move fast and it’s possible that some Republicans may even cave. You and I must hold the line.
We have a chance to stop this gun control stampede, but only if pro-gun Michiganders turn up the pressure on our lawmakers in Lansing.
Today I will be doing all that I can to gather intel on what Democrats are going to push and when, as well as working on a plan to get as many pro-gun Michiganders in this fight as possible.
Please pray for the victims of this violence, the families that lost a loved one and for those who are fighting for their lives in the hospital.
Please also pray that cooler heads would prevail and that the hot-headed nonsense from Democrats like Rep. Puri would dissipate.
As more details come out, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
